Description

This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by Charles Adolph in Wayne County, Indiana in 1851. The two cornerblocks have a lighthouse logo with the inscription "1851." The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. The centerfield pattern has alternating rows of octagonal medallions, heart medallions, and starburts; the pattern repeats horizontally four times. It has side borders with trees, deer, hunters and dogs and a fruit tree bottom border. The doubleweave structure combines a layer of undyed cotton with a layer of dark blue wool. It has hemmed sides and self-fringe on the bottom.
