This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by Asahel Phelps in Delhi, Delaware County, New York in 1848. The four cornerblocks read "Delhi 1848" with a shielded eagle logo, which Asahel Phelps used from 1835-1854. There are 14 stars above the eagle. The coverlet was woven full-width and has no center seam. It has a floral medallion centerfield pattern with a secondary star motif; the pattern repeats horizontally four times. The coverlet has borders on all four sides of birds with willow trees and flower pots. The doubleweave structure combines a layer of undyed cotton with a layer of dark blue wool. It has no fringe.Collection
