This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by Charles Wiand (Weand) in Trexlertown, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania in 1839. Two different cornerblocks read "Made by Charles Weand [sic] Trexlertown for [client blank]" and "Made by Charles Weand Trexlertown 1839." The coverlet was woven full-width and has no center seam. It has a centerfield pattern of leaf medallions with checkerboard diamonds and floral secondary motifs; the pattern repeats horizontally four times. It has a tulip tree border on the sides and bottom. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of red, dark blue, and gold wool on undyed cotton ground with applied fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses undyed cotton tie-down threads in a 3:1 warp ratio.Category
