This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by Solomon Kuder in Trexlertown, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania for Elisa A. Heintz in 1852. The two cornerblocks read "Manufactured By S. Kuder Trxlertown [sic] Lehigh Co PA Elisa. A Heintz 1852." This coverlet was most likely made for Elisa Heintz who was born in 1831 in Upper Macungie, Lehigh County, PA. to Issac and Hannah Heintz (1850 census). It is unclear what happened to Elisa as she appears in no records after the 1850 census. The coverlet was woven full-width and has no center seam. It has a tulip center medallion centerfield pattern. It has a floral vine border on the sides and bottom. The coverlet has red wool pattern weft on undyed cotton ground with applied fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses light blue cotton tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.Collection
