Description

This figured & fancy coverlet was manufactured by Fehr & Keck in Emaus, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania in 1848. The two cornerblocks read "Manufactored by Fehr & Keck, Emaus 1848." The coverlet was woven full-width with no center seam. It has a centerfield pattern of floral rosette medallions with diamond and checkerboard motifs; the pattern repeats horizontally four times. It has a flower vine border on the sides and bottom. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of red, orange, and green wool on undyed cotton ground with applied fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses undyed cotton tie-down threads in a 3:1 warp ratio.
