This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by John Gamble in 1835. The four cornerblocks read "J. Gamble weaver 1835." The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has a patchwork centerfield pattern with primroses, double flower/thistle, and leaf medallions, which repeats horizontally four times. It has borders with federal eagles and trees on the sides and both ends, edged with a Greek key design on the sides and a diamond lattice on all edges. The doubleweave structure combines a layer of undyed cotton with a layer of orange and dark blue wool. It has self-fringe on three sides.Collection
