This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by John Wagner in Bethel Township, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania in 1842. The bottom border repeats "John Wagner" and the two cornerblocks read "1842" repeating nine times, with small trees.
The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has a centerfield pattern of floral motifs in alternating rows; the pattern repeats horizontally three times. The coverlet has a triple border of small trees and distelfinks on the sides and a triple border of distelfinks and flowers on the bottom. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of red, dark blue, and green wool on undyed cotton ground with self-fringe on the sides and applied fringe on the bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses light blue cotton supplementary tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.Acquisition
