HS1974.12.1Description
Blue and white jacquard coverlet made by an unidentified weaver. The wool for this coverlet is said to have been spun by Diana Troutman in the early 1860s when she was a young girl.
The coverlet was woven full-width and has no center seam. It has a "Birds Feeding Young" centerfield pattern with birds, nests, and fruit urns that repeats horizontally twice. It has an architectural border with trees and pagodas on the sides and bottom with courthouses in the bottom two corners. The coverlet has a dark blue wool pattern on undyed cotton ground with no fringe on the sides and self-fringe on the bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses light blue cotton tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.Photograph Details
