Geometric coverlet, doubleweaveEntry/Object ID
HS1998.10.8Description
Geometric doubleweave coverlet made by an unidentified weaver. Red, blue, and cream wool and cotton coverlet with snowball centerfield pattern and pine tree border pattern. One panel is 35.75 inches and the other panel is 37.5 inches.
This geometric coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has remnants of self-fringe on the sides and bottom, with a hemmed top edge. The doubleweave structure combines a layer of undyed cotton with a layer of blue and red wool. Much of the cotton layer has disintegrated, leaving only the wool layer with the plaid striping easily visible. The pattern has four blocks and requires a 16-shaft loom.Context
