Geometric coverlet, overshotEntry/Object ID
HS2007.34.1Description
Red, white, and purple wool and cotton handwoven coverlet with a center seam and 3" fringe around three sides. The coverlet is likely a revival-era coverlet woven between 1890 to 1940 and may have been woven by a member of the Lehman family.
This geometric coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has self-fringe on the sides and applied fringe on the bottom. The overshot (floatwork) weave structure combines undyed cotton plainweave ground cloth with red and light purple wool pattern weft. The pattern has four blocks and requires a 4-shaft loom.Context
