Coverlet, tied beiderwandEntry/Object ID
HS2013.25.1Description
Unsigned coverlet believed to have been made in Somerset County or Western Pennsylvania. The coverlet may have been passed down through the Weimer family of Somerset, or it may have been purchased by a member of the family.
The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has a foliate centerfield pattern with plumed medallions; the pattern repeats horizontally twice. It has an acanthus leaf border on the sides and bottom. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of red, dark blue, and green wool on undyed cotton ground with self-fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses undyed cotton tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.Context
