Description

This figured & fancy coverlet was likely power-woven in a Pennsylvania manufactory ca. 1850-1880. It has no inscription. The coverlet was woven full-width and has no center seam. It has a center medallion pattern with a central star in a floral wreath, with eagles in the four corners and an elaborate floral border on all sides. The coverlet has a red wool pattern on undyed cotton ground with self-fringe on the sides and no fringe on the bottom. The power-woven tied Beiderwand weave structure uses light blue cotton tie-down threads in a 4:1 warp ratio.
