Description

This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by Benjamin Angstad for M. Groover in Lewisburg, Union County, Pennsylvania. The two cornerblocks read "Benjn Angstad Lewisburg Penn M.Groover." It was woven full-width and has no center seam. It has a curling leaf centerfield pattern with starball motifs that repeats horizontally four times. It has a grapevine border on the sides and the bottom with an outer edge of stars on the sides and zig-zags on the bottom. The coverlet has a navy, gold, and red wool pattern on undyed cotton ground with self-fringe on the sides and a hemmed bottom edge. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses light blue cotton tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.
