Description

This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by Emanuel Ettinger in Aaronsburg, Centre County, Pennsylvania in 1849. The two cornerblocks read, "E. Ettinger & Co. Aaronsburg Centre County 1869." The coverlet was woven full-width and has no center seam. It has a leaf medallion centerfield pattern with star motifs; the pattern repeats horizontally four times. It has a rose basket border on the sides and bottom with small stars around the outer edges. The coverlet has a red, navy, and green wool pattern on undyed cotton ground with self-fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses light blue cotton tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.
