Description

This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by George S. Wingert in Landisburg, Perry County, Pennsylvania. The two cornerblocks read, "George S. Wingert Landisburg Perry County Penn-A 1835." The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has a Lilies of France centerfield pattern with sunburst motifs; the pattern repeats horizontally four times. It has a distelfink and rose border on the sides and bottom. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of red and navy wool on undyed cotton ground with self-fringe on sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses light blue cotton tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.
