Description

This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by Henry Obevly in Womelsdorf, Berks County, Pennsylvania. The two cornerblocks read "Manufactured by Henry Obevly Womelsdorf Penn." The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has a doubled rosebud centerfield pattern; the pattern repeats horizontally five times. It has a border of tulip fronds on the sides and a floral border on the bottom. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of red, navy, and light green wool on undyed cotton ground. The coverlet has self-fringe on the sides and applied fringe on top (the end opposite to the bottom border). The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses supplementary light blue cotton tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.
