CDP 26.5.011Description
This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by Jacob Garat in Milton, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania in 1838. The two cornerblocks read, "Jacob Garat B.M A.F 1838."
The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has a double roses centerfield pattern with rosette motifs; the pattern repeats horizontally four and a half times. It has a distelfink and tree border on the sides and bottom with a double row of small stars around the outer edges. The coverlet has a red, navy, and gold wool pattern on undyed cotton ground with applied fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses light blue cotton tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.Context
