CDP 26.5.061Description
This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by John S. Goodman in Black Creek, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. The two cornerblocks read, "Made By John S. Goodman Black Creek Luzerne Co. For Mary Reed Penn. 1850."
The coverlet was woven full-width and has no center seam. It has a patchwork centerfield pattern with stars and snowflake motifs; the pattern repeats horizontally four times. It has a distelfink and rose border on the sides and a grapevine bottom. The coverlet has a red, green, and navy wool pattern on undyed cotton ground with self-fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses light blue cotton tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.Context
