Description

This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by Joseph Schnee in Freeburg, Snyder County, Pennsylvania. The two cornerblocks read "Joseph Schnee Freeburg Penn." The coverlet was woven full-width and has no center seam. It has a double roses centerfield pattern with flower blossom motifs; the pattern repeats horizontally four times. It has a grapevine border on the sides and bottom with small stars around the outer edges. The coverlet has a red, light green, and blue wool pattern on undyed cotton ground with self-fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses light blue cotton tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.
