This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by Phillip Michael in Susquehanna Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania in 1843. The two cornerblocks read "Phillip Michael Susquehanna Township 1843."
The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has a "double roses" centerfield pattern with flower blossom motifs; the pattern repeats horizontally four times. It has a grapevine border on the sides and bottom with small stars around the outer edges. The coverlet has a red and light green wool pattern on undyed cotton ground with self-fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses light blue cotton tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.Context
