Description

This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by Samuel Schreffler in Salona, Clinton County, Pennsylvania in 1853. The two cornerblocks read "S. Schrefler Salona Clinton Co PA 1853." The coverlet was woven full-width and has no center seam. It has a distorted floral tile centerfield pattern that repeats three times. It has an architectural border with roses and deer and the letter "W" on the sides and the bottom. The coverlet has a dark green, light green, and red wool pattern on undyed cotton ground with self-fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses light blue cotton tie-down threads in a 3:1 warp ratio.
