Description

This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by William Ettinger in Aaronsburg, Centre County, Pennsylvania in 1869. The two cornerblocks read, "William Ettinger Aaronsburg Centre County 1869." The coverlet was woven full-width and has no center seam. It has a "double roses" centerfield pattern with flower blossom motifs; the pattern repeats horizontally four times. It has a flower basket and rose border on the sides and bottom with small stars around the outer edges. The coverlet has a red, brown, and green wool pattern on undyed cotton ground with self-fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses light blue cotton tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.
