Description

This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by William Lowmiller in Level Corner, Piatt Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania in 1838. The two cornerblocks read "#Wm# Lowmiller Level Corner. Ly. Co. 1838." The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has a "double roses" centerfield pattern with flower blossom motifs; the pattern repeats horizontally four times. It has a grapevine border on the sides and bottom. The coverlet has undyed cotton pattern weft on undyed cotton ground with self-fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses undyed cotton tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.
