Description

This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by William Lowmiller in Muncy Borough, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania in 1845. The two cornerblocks read "Wm# Lowmiller Muncy Boro. Ly. Co. 1845." The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has a "double roses" centerfield pattern with flower blossom motifs; the pattern repeats horizontally four times. It has a grapevine border on the sides and bottom with a narrow outer border of stars in diamonds. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of red, green, and navy wool on undyed cotton ground with self-fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses light blue cotton tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.
