Description

This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by William Lowmiller in Muncy Borough, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania in 1845. The two cornerblocks read "Wm. Lowmiller Muncy Boro. Ly. Co. 1845." The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has a "double roses" centerfield pattern with flower blossom motifs; the pattern repeats horizontally four times. It has a grapevine border on the sides and bottom with a narrow outer border of stars in diamonds. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of red, green, and navy wool on undyed cotton ground with self-fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses light blue cotton tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.
