CDP 26.5.040Description
This figured & fancy coverlet was attributed to one of the Brosey family weavers for M. Buchwalder in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The bottom border reads "M. Buchwalder 1845."
The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has a centerfield pattern of floral motifs with an "X's and O's" effect; the pattern repeats horizontally three times. It has a triple bird border on the sides and bottom. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of red, navy, and gold wool on undyed cotton ground with applied fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses supplementary light blue cotton tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.Context
