Morley S. Oates Post 701 VFW Band Uniform

Name/Title

Morley S. Oates Post 701 VFW Band Uniform

Description

Morley S. Oates Post 701 V.F.W. Band, Lansing, Mich. Band Uniform. The uniform is a vintage military pinks uniform used by the band in the 1950s and 1960s. It's believed that when the MSC Band got new uniforms in 1952 (the first green and white set), the still-new ROTC Band uniforms were given to the VFW Band due to the abundance of MSC alumni in the VFW Band. That would mean this uniform is an example of those worn by the Spartan Marching Band in the 1940s (with the patch replaced). The uniform was purchased out of Portland, Michigan, from the grandchild of the original wearer, but no identifying information was obtained.
