Description

The item is a green and white plate depicting the National McKinley Birthplace Memorial in Niles, Ohio. It features the McKinley statue in the center with plants and pictures of the memorial placed around the edges. There is a ribbon banner at the bottom of the plate that says "McKinley Memorial Niles, Ohio". On the back of the plate, there is a description about the memorial and McKinley's connection to Niles. The plate was made in Alliance, Ohio. According to an article in the May 15, 1965 Niles Daily Times: "Made of a high-glaze pottery at an Ohio kiln, they are available in a soft shade of green on a white background. Attractive enough to be displayed with a plate collection, they are also of a color, design and size appropriate and practical for even daily family use." the plates were sold at the library for fifty cents apiece in 1965. The plates were made to commemorate the Golden (50th) anniversary of the construction of the Memorial and its cornerstone laying.
