PREFACE
Material for this modest biography of William McKinley, twenty-fifth President of the United States, was published in 1964 by the Stark County Historical Society under the title 'Condensed Biography of William McKinley.' The writer, Edward Thornton Heald, provided an important review of McKinley's life and times before the United States became a world power in the twentieth century.
My colleagues, William R. Wyss, Jr., Curator/Historian, Sara Lee Donze, Ramsayer Research Librarian, Elizabeth Collins, Special Projects Coordinator, and I have revisited the life of McKinley in the process of revising the original publication in preparation for this work. Then too, the McKinley National Memorial was recently restored to its original stature through federal and foundation support.
This booklet is published as 'William McKinley, A Condensed Biography,' in tribute to the late Edward Thornton Heald, who provided the people with the story of William McKinley and many other succinct stories of our heirtage.
