The item is a silk faux beaver black top hat belonging to William McKinley. The hat features a black bow band around the brim and is lined with black leather inside the hat around the brim. Inside of the hat features a maker's mark from Spangler & Co. of Canton and Massillon and also a stitched beige bow. The box the hat is stored in features a note on the lid saying, "Worn by Samuel Barr during 1896 & 1900 William McKinley Presidential campaigns. 95.70.191 Mr. Barr was a member of McKinley troop. 95.70.192 Wm McKinley Hat."Collection
