Postcard booklet of eight McKinley-related postcards. The front shows an image of McKinley wearing a white mason's apron while standing next to a book on a stand. The text reads: "Masonic Record of William McKinley 25th President of the United States Born at Niles, Ohio, January 29th, 1843. Died at Buffalo, N.Y., Sept. 14th, 1901 Initiated an Entered Apprentice May 1, 1865. Passed to the degree of fellow craft May 2nd, 1865, raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason, May 3, 1865 in Hiram Lodge, No. 21, F. & A.M., Winchester, Va. At the time of his death was a member of the Eagle Lodge, No. 431, Canton, Ohio. (Since the death of the late President, the name of Eagle Lodge has been changed to William McKinley Lodge, No. 431, F. & A.M. Advanced to the degree of Mark Master, Past Master, and Most Excellent Master, Dec. 27, 1883, and exalted to most Sublime Degree of Royal Arch Mason, Dec. 28, 1883, in Canton Chapter, No. 84, R.A.M. Received the illustrious Order of Red Cross, December 18, 1884. Created a Knight Templar, and made a Knight of Malta, December 23, 1884, in Canton Commandery, No. 38, K.T., Canton, Ohio." The back of the card has a space for a handwritten address and marked place for postage on the right. On the left, the following is printed: "Supreme Court, Washington, D.C., May 3rd, 1910. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph W. Wess, Niles, O., I am in entire accord with your project of restoring the birthplace of William McKinley, and keeping the same, as far as may be, in its original form, and as an Historical Museum such as you propose. The restored home will be a place of great interest to the many people who take an interest in the life and career of President McKinley. I am glad that you have preserved the building from decay and ruin. When I return to Canton this summer I shall endeavor to obtain some articles of interest in connection with the late President which may aid to you collection. William R. Day.
