Centennial Committee Meeting 3.23.2017
I. The meeting was called to order at 10:02 AM.
II. Roll call: the following members were present: Trish Scarmuzzi, Susan Rossi-Wilcox, Sandy Bilovesky, Michelle Alleman, Dawn Tallman, Richard Hale, Tony Ciminero, Mike Wilson
III. The minutes of the February 23, 2017 meeting were approved.
IV. Committee Reports:
a. Cornerstone: Rich Hale
i. Trish Scarmuzzi passed around a list of the contents of the cornerstone as listed in the Niles Daily News of November 22, 1915. Mr. Hale suggested that we open the cornerstone and look at the contents of the capsule prior to the public opening, so that we will know what the condition of the contents is.
ii. He further suggested that we build a list of items we wish to have place in the new time capsule.
b. Dinner: Tony Ciminero
i. Mr. Ciminero reported that he has two large events scheduled for Saturday October 7. After some discussion, the members decided to have the dinner on Sunday October 8, 2017.
1. Appetizers will be at 1PM, and will be in either the courtyard, or in the library if the weather is bad.
2. Dinner will start at 2PM.
3. Discussion occurred regarding the size of the floor. Miss Scarmuzzi will contact Ed Sciuillo about this.
4. Discussion also occurred about using the chairs we have, and also about using the library's tables. Additionally, Mr. Ciminero will look into using chair covers.
5. Discussion occurred regarding the number of people who will be attending. The committee decided that the dinner would be invitation-only, and would be limited to two hundred.
a. Miss Scarmuzzi suggested that the members submit a list of those they feel should be invited, and this can be collated at the next meeting.
b. Instrumental music will occur. Musicians will be in the balcony.
c. Miss Scarmuzzi will get floor dimensions from Ed Sciuillo and give them to Mr. Ciminero.
d. Mr. Ciminero will get pricings for meals and rentals for the next meeting.
c. Decorations: Michelle Alleman
i. Mrs. Alleman met with Reese Floral Art, Connelly's Florist, and Creative Designs regarding decorations
1. The number of decorations is dependent upon the number of tables and chairs
2. Center pieces for the tables are $30-50 each
3. Larger swags or drapes are $150
d. Dedication: Mike Wilson
i. Since the dinner will be Sunday, October 8, the committee decided to have the recreation of the dedication occur on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at noon.
1. There will be a tent on the grounds for refreshments
2. The dedication will be reenacted. Dorothy Butler, great granddaughter of Joseph G. Butler, Jr., will give Mr. Butler's dedication speech.
3. Mike Wilson will recreate former President Taft's dedication speech.
4. We will also offer tours of the museum, library, and house.
5. A band, such as the high school band, or even the Marine Band will perform.
6. We will have a public opening of the time capsule, and place new items in the time capsule.
7. We will sell ornaments and limited edition prints.of the Memorial
e. Music, speakers, publicity: Mike Wilson
i. Music: Because the event is to be held in the afternoon, we will not have dancing.
ii. Speakers: Will speak after the dinner. Their dinners will be complementary.
iii. Miss Scarmuzzi will ask Congressman Ryan to invite the Speaker of the House and the Marine Corps Band/Fife and Drum Corps.
iv. Mr. Wilson also asked Miss Scarmuzzi to get a PDF of the centennial logo out to him for publicity.
v. We will also ask for donations from individuals or organizations.
1. Will this be a fundraiser? The board needs to be here to let us know this so we can order donation cards to include in the invitations, and also so gift baskets can be put together.
a. If there is a specific project in mind for the fundraiser, the committee needs to know.
vi. Mr. Wilson will provide publicity to the Kiwanis, Rotary, Interfaith League, and the Regional Chamber. Sandy Bilovesky will provide publicity to the Niles Historical Society.
V. The meeting was adjourned at 11:23 AM.
