This is a plastic, metal, cloth and paper encampment badge. At the top of the badge is a silver metal name tag holder. Inside the tag, the words "G. A. R. are printed on ivory paper with a plastic covering. Attached is a red, white and navy blue vertical striped ribbon with words in silver that read "61st Annual Encampment. G. A. R. of Ohio. Canton. June 12-16, 1927." Hanging from the ribbon by a metal chain link is a silver medal with a picture of the McKinley Monument in Canton, Ohio etched into the metal. The medal is shaped like a pear or teardrop. The words "McKinley Monument" are inscribed above and "Canton, Ohio" below. The badge is pinned to a 2 1/4 inch x 5 1/2 inch piece of cardboard. On the front bottom part of the cardboard is the name of the manufacturer, "Bastian Bros. Co., Rochester , N. Y. Along side of the union label printed below these words is the number 19. "Badges, Buttons, Metal and Celluloid Novelties, Gold and Silver Emblems" is written below the label. The reverse side of the ribbon has an old accession #, 95.70.173 . On the back of the medal, the words "Bastian Bros. Co. Rochester N. Y." are the only words that can be clearly read, although there are other illegible markings. The back of the cardboard also has the same old accession # and a partially visible name and address of Mr. George Bechtel.Collection
