Scope and Content

The item is the front page from the publication, Puck from January 15,1890. Vol. XXVI No. 671. It is a political cartoon depicting Uncle Sam holding a flag saying "Tariff Reform" Beneath him, McKinley, John Wanamaker, Jim Blaine, and Quay are standing surrounded by bags and barrels of money. There are two signs in the picture one that says "Notice No Thoroughfare" and "Trusts Are Largely Private Affairs." Under the title, it says, "Uncle Sam.-When I git a-going, nothin' can stop me!" It was drawn by Halrymple. Copyright 1889 Keppler and Schwartzmann. It cost 10 cents at publication.
