An issue of Collier's Weekly, an illustrated journal of art, literature and current events, Vol. 23 No. 1, published April 8, 1899. The cover features a photograph of the United States Army 12th regiment coming off a boat, with the title "The Return of the Twelfth Reigment". The caption underneath reads, "The twelfth regiment New York volunteers, Colonel R.W. Leonard, reutnred to New York from Cuba, Sunday March 26, on the the United States troopship Meade(Formerly the transatlantic passenger steamer Berlin). The regiment sailed for Cuba from Savanna December 28 and was stationed at Matanzas where it was detailed on provost guard duty. Forty officers and nine hundred and thirty-four privates arrived on the Meade: The residue of the regiment remaining in cuba on various details.
