An issue of Leslie's Weekly Illustrated, Vol. LXXXVII No. 2255, it was copyrighted by the Arkell Publishing Company in New York on December 1, 1898. The front cover features an image by Thomas Nast of a spirit above a sinking ship with skulls with the mast still out of the water with the title "Hail, Free Cuba!" The caption reads, "From Our Martyred Dead Arise Life And Liberty To The Long-Oppressed Isle."
