"Henry Hammond Ahl (1869-1953)
Henry Hammond Ahl was a painter and sculptor. He studied at the Royal Academy in Munich with Alexander Wagner and Franz Stuck, at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris with Gerome; he also studied under Peter Paul Muller. He was a member of the American Artists Professional League, the Copley Society, the Salmagundi Club, and the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts. Ahl exhibited at the Munich Royal Academy where he was awarded a prize, The National Academy of Design, the American Watercolor Society, the Washington Art Club, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Boston Art Club, the Worcester Museum of Art, the Hartford Atheneum, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and the North Shore Artists Association. His work has been preserved at the Worcester Museum of Art; the Springfield (MA) Art Museum; the Sweat Museum in Portland, ME; the Whistler Memorial Home in Lowell, MA; the Vanderpoel Collection; Wellesley College; and in church murals in Boston and Providence." *
