Description

An issue of Collier's Weekly, an illustrated journal of art, literature and current events, Vol. 23 No. 4, published April 29, 1899 in New York by Peter Fenelon Collier. The issue features an illustration of troops during battle with a couple casualities with the title, "Ambushed By Samoans." The illustration was drawn by Gilbert Gaul from photographs. Caption says, "The Murder Of Lieutenant Freeman, Lieutenant Lansdale, Ensign Monaghan, And Four Sailors Of The British Cruiser Tauranga And The American Cruiser Philadelphia, By Soldiers Of The Rebel Mataafa, Near Apia, Samoa."
