Postcard that is a "War Time Camp Alger Souvenir Postal." The front reads "Copyrighted 1898 by Gatchel & Manning 1898." Card is addressed to Mr. A.R. Seiple with Greenville Mercer Co., Pa. crossed out and new address written in pencil as "Co K 15th Regiment Sheridan Point Fairfax, Va." Postmark is illegible. The illustration on the front is that of the United States Flag crossed with the Cuban Flag.
On the back, there are two musical staffs, with the lyrics
"When your last day is past
From afar some bright star
O'er your grave watch shall keep
While you sleep with the brave."
There is also a handwritten note to A.R. Seiple from William McKinley on the back:
"Camp Alger Co. E Third Div. July 26, 1898 A.R. Seiple Co. K. 15th Penna. Grandfriend: According to my agreement I saved you one of the Souvenir Cards. M seeing to stay here even though that Porto Rico troops are leaving or have left. The Perma. Regs. 13, 12, & 8 I think it was have been moved to Drum Loring.
Our Reg. meet for Division Inspection today but I came off guard this am. so didn't go. I haven't been up to Washington since I saw you there. I sent that guide book home. Hoping that you are getting along all right. I am your friend Will Whitney. P.S. If you ever come to Niagara Falls, NY hunt me up in our directory (crossed out--of) I am in at 220 Ferry St."
