Scope and Content

Envelope addressed to Miss Lila M. Scott Kempton, Illinois Ford Co. The postmark reads "July 11 '96 Chickmauga Natl. Park GA." A red one cent stamp with the image of George Washington is in the upper right corner of the envelope. The left side of the envelope features a United States flag held by a rough rider with a sword in his other hand, and a Cuban flag held by another soldier. Handwritten under the image is the following: "W.J.L. Hospital 6th Ill. Inf. Chickamuga Park." The back of the envelope has a partial, mostly illegible postmark, that reads "Rec'd." A second postmark, complete with United States flag cancellation mark reads: Chicago July 12 9-30O 1898 ILL"
