Letter written on Historic Zoar Hotel Stationery. The letter has the letter head "Historic Zoar Hotel Since 1833," a sketch of the hotel, and "The Zoar Hotel, Inc. P.O. Box 630 Zoar, Ohio 44697 Telephone 216/874-3181"
The body of the letter reads as follows:
"Zoar Black Pudding
a steamed Pudding much like a heavy gingerbread. President McKinley would always request this dessert. Served with a glaze of butter (real butter) and powdered sugar.
Cream 1/2 cup shortening, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 3 eggs
dissolve: i teas. soda in 1/4 cup milk
add: 1 cup molasses
2 1/4 cup all purpose flour
1 teas. each of cloves, nutmeg, & cinnamon
Pour into greased Bundt pan. Set into large kettle with a rock or bricks to keep pan off bottom of kettle. Keep water just to bottom of bundt pan. Steam one hour covered. DO NOT let water boil over into pudding. (over)
