Letter written on Historic Zoar Hotel Stationery. The letter has the letter head "Historic Zoar Hotel Since 1833," a sketch of the hotel, and "The Zoar Hotel, Inc. P.O. Box 630 Zoar, Ohio 44697 Telephone 216/874-3181" The body of the letter reads as follows: "Zoar Black Pudding a steamed Pudding much like a heavy gingerbread. President McKinley would always request this dessert. Served with a glaze of butter (real butter) and powdered sugar. Cream 1/2 cup shortening, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 3 eggs dissolve: i teas. soda in 1/4 cup milk add: 1 cup molasses 2 1/4 cup all purpose flour 1 teas. each of cloves, nutmeg, & cinnamon Pour into greased Bundt pan. Set into large kettle with a rock or bricks to keep pan off bottom of kettle. Keep water just to bottom of bundt pan. Steam one hour covered. DO NOT let water boil over into pudding.
