Scope and Content

McKinley Patriotic Envelope Cover A colorful patriotic image of McKinley facing left is located on the left hand side of the envelope. His image is set in an ornamental shield with red and white stripes on the lower half and white stars on a blue background adorn the upper half. An eagle framed with blue and white rays and holding an American flag in his talons lies along the upper left hand portion of the shield. Below his image are the words "PRESIDENT WM. MCKINLEY." An Austrian twenty-five h Heller postage stamp with the image of Franz Josef is located in the upper right hand corner. The postmark is difficult to read, but is possibly [BUDWEIS BUDEJOVICE], a city in what is now the Czech Republic. The envelope is addressed to "Mr. Emil [Baumfeld], 1138 first ave, New York, [Nord Ammerik]." The return address is located on the back flap and written in script, making it difficult to read. It appears to be: "Korl Lobl, #24 Bafuraffa, Budweis Bujovice R. [Morordy]." A postmark is only partially legible, "7-13 [?] 5 A, N.Y."
