The winter wind howled outside the McKinley's two story wood frame house while people shop in the general store below. Upstairs, the cry of a new born baby could be heard, it's January 29, 1843. Mother McKinley had given birth to the seventh of her nine children. But this little person would be special. He would be the 25th President of the United States.
Little William was a cheerful and kind child. He was a pale, a stocky built and sparkling gray eyes.
In summer he and his friends went barefooted. They played soldier/They liked to swim in Mosquito Creek too. William brings in the cows from the pasture, and helps his mother and sisters.
In winter he and his friends enjoy ice skating on Mosquito Creek.
But do you know what William liked the most? He loved making and flying kites, and secretly dreamed of being president.
Father McKinley ran an iron foundry.
Mother McKinley took care of the Methodist Church.
They lived in Niles, located in Northeast , Ohio. The only way into town was a wagon trail from Pgh, PA and canal. It is a rural town with only 300 people but had several stores and businesses plus three churches and a school, but it only offered basic subjects.Collection
