An issue of Leslie's Weekly Illustrated, Vol. LXXXVIII No. 2266, it was copyrighted by the Arkell Publishing Company in New York on February 16, 1899. The front cover features a photograph of three soldiers tied down with stakes, with the title "Punishment in the army, the "spread eagle" and the caption "How unruly men are made to pay the penalty for misconduct." Underneath the photo and caption is a pargraph detailing the punishment and other various punishments in the army.
