Description

An issue of Leslie's Weekly Illustrated, Vol. LXXXVIII No. 2279. It was copyrighted by the Judge Company on 110 Fifth Avenue and published in New York on May 18, 1899. Printed at the top of the issue is "The Most Heroic Deed of the Philippine Campaign, by Two of General Funston's Famous Kansas Volunteers." On the front cover there is an illustration of a U.S. Navy ship shining a spot light on another ship, with the caption, "Watching the Actions of the Germans at Samoa, officers of the United States Ship, "Philadelphia" and of the British War-Ships, in the harbor of Apia, suspect that the rebels were supplied with arms and ammunition from the German War-ship "Falke"- The search-light of the Philadelphia is turned on the "Falke" every night."
