Description

Framed and matted letter and envelope from the McKinley Hotel in Canton, Ohio. The envelope contains the hotel logo which is the Ohio State seal inset over two US flags and "The McKinley" and "Canton, Ohio" written in Old English lettering on the right side. "J.D. Lawrence, Mgr." is written between the McKinley and Canton, Ohio lettering. The envelope is postmarked Pittsburgh, May 2, 1906 and is addressed to Miss Lucile Harris Jamestown, Ohio. A red two-cent US Postage stamp with a picture of George Washington is on the upper right corner. The letter is mounted to cover the middle of the letter. The letter has the hotel's letter head and logo on the top, slightly offset to the left. "Canton, Ohio," is written in Edwardian Script to the left of the date, May 1, 1906, which is handwritten. A portion of the first page of the four page letter may be seen near the bottom of the display. The display is matted in white and framed in a brown wooden frame with a golden stripe near the glass. The back of the frame is beige, with "For Diplomas Photographs Documents Easy to Frame #5672W #6386 9 x 12 Mat Opening 6 x 8 Reliance Picture Frame Co. Dover, N.J." in the center, but upside down. Mr. Bechtel wrote the following in the upper left corner: "Property of George Bechtel Framed 9-12-64 4-4." the backing was taped to the frame.
