This is a 1 1/2 in. diameter button made of celluloid and metal. The front of the button has a black and white portrait of McKinley facing right, on an ivory background, and surrounded by a black border. Below his portrait are words in ivory that read " In Memoriam." A plain brass ring surrounds the piece, and around that is brass filigree. On the reverse side is a 1 1/8 in. long metal pinback used for attachment. A round metal ring surrounds the entire piece and holds it together. Four brass brackets are attached to the ring holding the gold ring and filigree in place. No manufacturer's markings are visible.
