McKinley Five Cent Postage Stamp 1905 Envelope.
Three stamps, with two Detroit postmarks atop, are affixed to the upper right hand corner of the envelope; a three cent purple (Andrew) "JACKSON, 1765-1815, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA POSTAGE" stamp, a blue five cent (Abraham) LINCOLN, 1800-1865, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA POSTAGE, SERIES 1902" stamp, and a blue five cent (William) "MCKINLEY, 1843-1901, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, COMMEMORATIVE SERIES OF 1901" stamp.
The return address reads in three lines of text, "AFTER 5 DAYS RETURN TO AMERICAN OPTICAL COLLEGE, DETROIT, MICHIGAN." An image of an eye is located between the 2nd and 3rd lines.
The envelope is addressed to: "Mr. Otto Treichel, 173 Chapel St., Windsor. Melbourne, N.S. W. Australia." Under the address a label reads, "R UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. SAN FRANCISCO, CAL. NO. 15866," and written in pencil, "4202."
A third postmark reads, "DETROIT, MICH. AUG 11 1905, REGISTERED."
The back has two additional postmarks; "SAN FRANCISCO, CAL AUG 16 1905. REGISTERED F. D." and "MELBOURNE.5. REGISTERED." The date is not completely legible, [11.9.05].Collection
