Description

This is a 1 1/2 in. diameter medal made of silver (possibly over bronze) with a portrait of McKinley, facing left, etched into the center. A circular border of laurel leaves surrounds it. The portrait is verydarl and tarnishing is visible on some of the leaves. There is hole in the top which has a single chain link through it, and a badly worn double black silk ribbon is attached to that. The edges are smooth. On the reverse side arched across the top the words read "William McKinley." Below are 6 lines of text which read: "Born. Jan. 28, 1843. Assasinated. Sept. 6, 1901. Died. Sept. 13, 1901." An old accesion number is written at the bottom: "95.80.170." No manufacturer's markings.
