These Presidents Don't Get Around Much Anymore
Andrew Jackson is popular these days, thanks to the ATM machines that usually dole out cash in $20 bills, which feature our seventh President. But William McKinley ($500), Grover Cleveland ($1000) and James Madison ($5000) rarely get around anymore. To deter criminal activities, they were taken out of circulation in 1969. Will George Washington soon join them?
Republicans in Congress are pushing a plan to replace the $1 bill with a gold-colored $1 coin, which wouldn't wear out as fast. Critics recall the Susan B. Anthony $1 coin, rejected by the public in 1979.
